- Why Backup Transformation Is Needed
Do you ever feel like you’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole? Or maybe you feel like you are the square peg in the round hole?

I know I have. In fact, just last week I experienced that feeling of being squeezed or wedged. But I digress.
Based on the conversations we’re having in the field with all different types of organizations – big, small, public and private – and the market research data third-party firms are continuously churning out, many of you know the feeling all-too well.
And it’s not just backup administrators who are telling us they’re feeling squeezed, but also server, hypervisor, application and storage administrators. And there’s a reason for this. Yes, data volumes are growing massively. But it’s really end-user expectations that are driving IT behaviors and the need for smarter backup.
As EMC CTO and The Backup Window blogger Stephen Manley puts it in the newly released paper Accelerating Transformation with Smarter Backup: An Interview with Stephen Manley: “[End-users] understand what’s available in the consumer space and what’s possible with the right IT infrastructure. This means the bar is a lot higher, for IT in general and backup in particular.”
Backup is the square peg. But it doesn’t have to be. You just need to make sure have the right technologies and processes in place to support today’s environment.
At EMC World next week, Stephen Manley, BRS president BJ Jenkins and a massive staff of EMC Backup Recovery Systems product, sales and marketing professionals will be on-hand to help you start your journey. We’ll share tips on how to win over application owners, transform your environment without “ripping and replacing” anything and, of course, leverage EMC innovations to accelerate your backup transformation.
